Dental & Tooth Implant

We are committed to offering the highest-quality implants, relying on state-of-the-art technology, so our clients can receive the best care.

What are dental implants?

If you’ve experienced a sports injury, gum or bone loss, periodontal disease, or missing teeth, you’ve probably wondered about the best way to restore your smile.

Dental implants are one of the most effective solutions. They’re essentially titanium posts that act as artificial tooth roots, placed into the jawbone beneath your gums. Over time, they fuse with the bone to create a strong foundation for a ceramic crown or bridge. These restorations are crafted to match your natural teeth, so they don’t just function like the real thing, they look like it too.

At The Dental Room, dental implants are a routine procedure. Dr Shawn Rama and his team combine experience with advanced technology to deliver results that are second nature to them. With our in-house master ceramist, Ms Chloe Park, every step — from planning to placement to final restoration, is taken care of under one roof. That’s something you won’t find at many clinics.

The problem with dentures and bridges

Why Dental Implants Are Different

Implants don’t just replace teeth. They replace tooth roots. That means they keep the jawbone active and supported, helping to maintain both your oral health and facial structure. They look, feel, and function like natural teeth, restoring confidence as well as comfort.

What are the different types of dental implants available?

We offer a range of implant options to suit different needs:

  • Individual Implants
Perfect for replacing a single tooth or a few teeth in a row.

  • Denture Stabilisation (Snap-On Dentures)
A modified denture attached to at least two implants for a secure, comfortable fit. With these, you can even bite into an apple without worrying about movement.

  • All-on-X® Implants
All-on-X implants are ideal for clients needing a half or full set of teeth replaced. A full arch of teeth can be supported by as few as 4–6 implants, making this a transformative option for those with advanced gum or bone issues.

How long do dental implants last?

With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, dental implants can last a lifetime, making them one of the most reliable and long-term investments you can make in your smile.

If you’re struggling with missing teeth, loose or damaged teeth, or poorly fitting dentures, dental implants could be the right solution for you.

Many people assume that losing a single tooth won’t make much of a difference. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case. Over time, a missing tooth can impact jaw function, lead to bite misalignment (malocclusion), and even affect the foods you’re able to eat comfortably. Gaps allow neighbouring teeth to drift into empty spaces, which in turn creates issues like irregular tooth wear, jaw stress, and an overall imbalance in your bite.

The good news? Thanks to advances in dental implant technology and the expertise of Dr Shawn Rama and his team at The Dental Room, very few clients are unsuitable for dental implants today.

What to expect at your consultation

Your journey starts with an initial Smile Consultation with Dr Shawn. During this appointment, he’ll:

  • Review your dental and medical history

  • Answer any questions or concerns you may have

  • Discuss treatment options and costs in detail

  • Determine whether you’re a good candidate for implants

If all looks well, a personalised treatment plan and appointment schedule will be created for you.

Results, potential risks, complications, and recovery times can differ for each individual and each procedure. Any dental procedure carries risks and benefits. Refer to thedentalroom.com.au/risks for more information on risks and potential complications.

The Dental implant procedure – what to expect?

The first modern dental implant procedure was completed in 1965 by Swedish orthopedic surgeon Dr Per-Ingvar Brånemark, who pioneered the use of titanium implants. Since then, dental implants have evolved to become one of the most reliable solutions for tooth loss.

At The Dental Room, Dr Shawn Rama combines the latest implant materials and cutting-edge technology to deliver a streamlined, one-stop solution for patients seeking implants. Here’s what the process looks like:

1. Implant consultation and planning.

Long-term success begins with careful planning. Using advanced in-house 3D scanning software, Dr Shawn evaluates the volume and quality of your bone to determine the best placement for your implant.

After this detailed assessment, you’ll be presented with your tailored treatment plan, including options and costs, so you know exactly what to expect.

2. Implant 3D-guided keyhole surgery.

The implant placement procedure usually takes around one hour and is performed under local anaesthesia using a gentle keyhole method.

Traditionally, implant surgery required raising gum flaps to access the jawbone, a technique that often meant more discomfort and longer healing. Dr Shawn’s expertise in performing keyhole surgery, paired with 3D-guided technology, makes the procedure quicker, more precise, and far less invasive.

Here’s how it works:

  • A digital scan of your jaw is transformed into a 3D-printed guide.

  • This guide is locked into place in your mouth to map out the exact implant position.

  • The result: reduced margin for error, less post-operative tenderness, and faster recovery times.

3. Implant crown placement.

After your implant is placed, it needs time to bond with your jawbone, a process called osseointegration, which typically takes about three months.

Once healed, you’ll return for the final step: crown placement. At this appointment, a digital scan of your implant is taken and passed on to our in-house ceramist, Chloe. She will carefully design and customise your crown to match your natural teeth in both function and aesthetics, ensuring a seamless, long-lasting result.

Pros of dental implants

Natural look and feel.

Dental implants are designed to look and function like natural teeth. They can support everyday activities such as speaking, eating, and smiling with ease. In many cases, implants blend in seamlessly with your natural teeth, making them a discreet option for tooth replacement.

Dental implants are permanent, reliable, convenient, and comfortable.

Your implants will be fused to your bone, therefore built for life and essentially a part of you. They rarely come loose or fracture, unlike dentures. In addition, you’ll never need to have them replaced, providing you keep up with proper dental hygiene and regular check-ups. Therefore, dental implants are an excellent long-term option for smile restoration.

A restoration that doesn’t compromise healthy teeth.

Tooth-supported bridges require grinding down healthy teeth on either side of the missing tooth, therefore damaging healthy teeth. Implants are inserted into the jawbone, replacing missing teeth without harming the healthy ones.

No foods barred!

Dental implants restore full chewing function, meaning you can enjoy a wide variety of foods without restriction. They also eliminate the movement or looseness sometimes experienced with dentures.

Healthy, happy, bone.

By stimulating the jawbone, implants prevent the bone loss that can occur after tooth loss. This helps maintain facial structure and oral health long term.

TGA-approved.

All implant procedures at The Dental Room use Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA)-approved materials and techniques, ensuring quality and safety.

Streamlined treatment.

At The Dental Room, every stage of treatment is provided under one roof, including 3D scanning, planning, and surgery. This reduces the need for multiple appointments across different locations.

In-house ceramist.

Our in-house ceramist Ms Chloe Park carefully hand-makes each implant to ensure smiles are custom-created for each client. Much care and precision go into this process.

What is the cost of dental implants?

The cost of a dental implant varies depending on individual needs, including the type of implant, case complexity, and the extent of treatment required.

Start to finish at The Dental Room

Unlike some clinics where you may need to see multiple specialists, The Dental Room provides all implant-related care in-house. With radiology and laboratory services on-site, every stage is carefully coordinated, ensuring consistency, quality, and convenience.

For advanced procedures such as Fixed-on-Four, our systems allow implants and the arch to be fitted on the same day — avoiding the need for temporary dentures or lengthy healing periods.

In-house ceramist

Each implant is custom-crafted by our in-house ceramist, Ms Chloe Park. Her precision and artistry ensure natural-looking results tailored to every client. Thanks to Chloe’s expertise, we’ve had the privilege of restoring smiles for clients locally and internationally.

Transparent pricing and flexible payments

We know dental implants are both a personal and financial decision. That’s why we’re transparent about treatment plans and costs, helping you make an informed choice. Implants are designed to be a long-term investment in function and appearance, and with proper care, can last many years.

To make treatment more accessible, we also offer interest-free payment plans for eligible clients through Zip.

Minimally invasive surgery

Using MGUIDE® technology — a computer-guided system with 3D planning and in-house CT scanning — our team carefully maps out implant placement. This approach often allows for less invasive treatment, including keyhole surgery, with the aim of making the process more precise and comfortable.

Dental Implants FAQ

Absolutely! Unlike dentures, you can eat anything with dental implants. Of course, ensure that you keep up your regular oral hygiene regime to protect your teeth from sweet ingredients and acidic foods. Just think – the same rule applies as it did with your original teeth.

Dental implants are not supposed to fall out. At The Dental Room, we always ensure that the client is best suited to dental implants so they can stay with them for a lifetime. Dental implants are durable, permanent and require no maintenance other than a healthy oral hygiene regimen. However, there are rare cases where a dental implant may become loose and fall out. This is due to external factors such as bone loss and the gum disease peri-implantitis.

We will administer anaesthesia prior, so you will not feel any pain during the procedure. You may experience mild fatigue and pain afterwards, especially around the implant site; however, this is manageable with pain relief medications. After the initial tenderness wears off, you won’t notice any difference between your dental implants and natural teeth – ideal!

An implant procedure usually only takes one hour, depending on a patient’s specific treatment plan.

Dental implants are surgically placed in the jaw bone using a local anaesthetic.

Not necessarily. A dental implant procedure can take place under either a local anaesthetic or ‘sleep dentistry. Instead of local anaesthetics, ‘sleep dentistry’ uses IV sedation to manage the anxiety you may experience when visiting the dentist, making it a safer option than a general anaesthetic. If you opt for sleep dentistry, your sedation is managed by a medical doctor who looks after your condition throughout the procedure to ensure you are comfortable and safe.

Providing you have proper dental hygiene and regular check-ups, dental implants are durable and can last a lifetime, making them an excellent long-term option for smile restoration.

Dental implants are made from medical-made titanium (similar to hip implants, shoulder implants, and knee implants).

The tooth/crown is made of ceramics and created by our in-house ceramist, Ms Chloe Park.

Of course – if you are experiencing a loose dental implant, it would require replacement. Get in touch with The Dental Room as soon as you feel the dental implant becoming loose. You may need the removal of the loose implant and thorough cleaning, a potential insertion of a bone graft into the socket to allow the site to heal, and a check of the bone tissue around four months after the initial implant removal and bone graft. You can be scheduled for a second implant procedure once the graft has produced enough tissue to support an implant securely.

Bone loss may be caused by gum disease or injury but often results from dentures or multiple missing teeth. Implant technology has significantly advanced in recent times, and today most clients with bone loss can be fitted with dental implants. Ensure you book an initial Smile Consultation with Dr Shawn Rama, who will assess your suitability for dental implants.

Severe gum disease causes loss of the jaw’s original bone and gum structure to hold implants. Once the jaw is made free of disease, we can regenerate lost bone and gum with grafting or regeneration to create a healthy foundation for implants. So this would need to be looked at first. Once again, book a consultation at The Dental Room to discuss your options and surgery path moving forward.

There are no restrictions when it comes to getting a dental implant, as long as you’re healthy enough to cope with an oral procedure. You also need to have healthy gum tissue and adequate bone structure to support the implant.

No, it’s a common misconception that getting dental implants can cause headaches. Although headaches are not an average side effect of the dental implant process, there will be some healing time. If you experience headaches after your dental implant procedure, it may be due to other issues such as an infection or – which is extremely rare – a surgical complication that may cause nerve damage. If you experience prolonged pain in the neck or the head, please call The Dental Room as soon as possible.

Before you get dental implants, Dr Shawn Rama will examine your mouth to see if you have any symptoms of gum disease, including gum recession. When you have gum recession, you will need to assess whether your dental implant will function. Dr Shaw can discuss dental implants and gum recession if you have concerns about your gum health.

As the implant is fitted using keyhole surgery, there is minimal discomfort and reduced healing time. Following the procedure, you can expect mild tenderness in the area of the implant placement for a couple of days, which can be treated by over-the-counter pain medication. The integration of the implant to the surrounding bone takes three months to heal (or four to six months if grafting is required). However, this process occurs silently, with no discomfort or pain.

The cost of a dental implant will vary depending on each individual’s needs. These include the type of implant, the complexity of each case, and the extent of the procedure.
